"Zero Day" is a thru-hiking term for a zero mile day during a long distance hike — a day where you stroll into a town for a rest after putting in days of hard miles. Zero days are a treasured part of the journey. There's nothing like finally getting to a town to shower off, wash your clothes, maybe sleep in a real bed, meet wonderful locals, and get a hot cup of stellar, delicious coffee.

Zero Day was founded by a fellow named Avery from the Appalachian region of the eastern US. After a childhood with limited means, he strived for achievement — and achieve he did. Through grit, vision, and massive balls, he opened a tiny business in a tourism-driven mountain town at the height of national pandemic restrictions. Endless perseverance mixed with love for the craft and community saw the shop to success.

In October 2024, Avery moved on to pursue new adventures. Zero Day was bought by Matt — a passionate local who had been Avery's housemate for the better part of two years, regularly helping run the business. Matt knows it as thoroughly as the person who founded it and is deeply committed to the Leadville community. Zero Day is in the right hands.

Over the years, Zero Day grew into a cornerstone of the Leadville and outdoor communities. Outdoor gear solidified it as the stop of choice for CT and CDT adventurers. Quality food gave locals a reason to show up every single day. Local artists fill the walls. Community events keep everyone connected.

We are located along the Colorado Trail and the Continental Divide Trail, positioned among the finest high alpine terrain in the nation. Our shop is off the beaten path — for those who live their lives off the beaten path.
